Maite Arbucias Changemaker 1900's Blog
By Maite Arbucias Changemaker Blog:
The history of the United States is made up of important events across different centuries, especially during the 16thcentury into the 2000’s.
Many of these events were accomplished by individuals who made a significant impact through their creativity, contribution, and leadership.
Many of these change makers influenced society in ways that still impact today. They were not only a part of our political, social and cultural history, they were its beginning.
The 1700’s were the foundation of the United States which focused on the importance of freedom and government, which was new at the time. The 1700’s were the beginning of new laws and systems that would protect the citizens and will allow them to have a voice.
These early efforts shaped the way society works today. Citizens were learning how to live under new laws and freedoms. The community was figuring out how to work together to build communities.
The 1800’s were a pivotal point in U.S history, marking the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, which included innovative invention and rapid growth. The 1800’s also included important developments in society, the economy, and civilians’ rights. In this Era, there were more people moving to cities, and many changes in society occurred. It was the beginning of reform movement and expansion rights.
People’s lives were changing quickly, and society had to adapt to new ways of working and living.
My group’s presentation focused on the 1900’s which I invested I got more engagement. I picked Theodore Roosevelt as a change maker because he believed that large corporations had monopolized much control over the economy and he cared more about the working American.
One of Roosevelt’s main goals was what he called the “Square Deal”, where every American would have a fair chance to succeed, work, and support their families. I was fascinated and really enjoyed talking about Theodore Roosevelt because he was a leader who valued peace and was able to help negotiate peace during the Russo-Japanese War. This shows that leadership is not only about being a president but also about diplomacy, finding solutions, and peace between countries.
Our group also discussed artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley whose rise as major musical phenomena revolutionized both the artistic world and society.
These individuals crossed global barriers and were entertainment figures who left a great legacy.
We also included Martin Luther King Jr. who fought for civil rights and equality in the United States. Dwight D. Eisenhower was president in the 1950’s and helped strengthen the U.S.’s economy during the early Cold War.
Even today, they are remembered and their music continues to be enjoyed by many. They had a significant influence on both entertainment and culture. It’s impressive how these talented artists reached so far with their music without having all the technology that is used today.
The 2000’s presentation is about today’s fast paced world, the group talked about different individuals such as Michelle Obama, which I admire, she campaigned and advocated about education and empowerment, for young women.
Another one was Angelina Jolie whom I personally admire, not only for her career but also for her humanitarian work. She has helped refugees and people in needs and have raised awareness about global issues. This shows that changemaker is about making positive impact in the world. This era has been shaped on people’s rights, a bigger scope in communication and technology.
Throughout history, changemakers from every century have shaped the United States through their leadership, creativity, and vision.
From the foundations laid in the 1700s to modern innovations in the 2000s, these individuals demonstrate how one person or group can influence society. Studying their contributions helps us understand the importance of action, courage, and creativity in creating lasting change. Some presentations taught me things I had not considered, and I learned how history affects us today.
I think anyone of us can make a difference by each of us contributing something positive and care about others to make a better life. This assignment made me realize that I can contribute something meaningful to society in my own way. People who fought for rights, inspires me to try harder in my own life. This experience showed me that small contributions can make a meaningful difference in our world.
I am used to doing my work on my own, but I was able to adapt quickly to working in a group. I think Manuel is a good leader and expresses himself very well. I also found it very interesting to see the evolution of the United States and how since the 1700’s the country has achieved so much growth. My classmates all did a very good job. I really enjoyed all the presentations, from the 1700s to the 2000s. The group projects were very well structured, and many of them included photos and videos of important moments and events through the centuries that transported me as if I was living it. In the 2000s, everything has developed very quickly. Sometimes the impact of technology can even feel overwhelming or little scary to me. Even though it has many benefits, it also makes me think about how fast the world is changing.
In this project not only did I learn about amazing change makers, but it also helped me to quickly adapt and participate in a group and step out from my comfort zone since I am a naturally introverted individual. Seeing how people today can influence others encourage to use the skills that I have been learning in SPC class to help others.
At the beginning of the presentation, I was a little bit nervous. However once I started, I was able to break the ice and let the presentation flow more naturally. As I continued, I began to feel more comfortable in my own skin, and I could see myself improving little by little. Every time I do a presentation, it helps me become a little bit more confident when giving a speech.
